$23.65 million Pagani Zonda Barchetta the world's most expensive car (2024)

Pagani has confirmed the pricing of what is now the world's most expensive new car: a $23.65 million Zonda HP Barchetta, of which just three vehicles will ever be made.

The Italian supercar manufacturer revealed its ultra-rare supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England where founder Horacio Pagani entered it into an exhibition hillclimb event.

In fact, this particular model of Zonda is Pagani's own – the "HP" in the vehicle's nameplate stands for Horacio Pagani.

Completely hand-built, the Zonda HP Barchetta is an open-top convertible supercar that's capable of pumping out a staggering 789 brake horsepower to its rear wheels.

Powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 from AMG Mercedes and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Zonda HP Barchetta contains a near-limitless level of power.

Weighing just 1250kg – some 300kg lighter than a bog-standard Toyota Camry – the HP Barchetta is almost totally made from carbon fibre and sits on a chassis made from a material Pagani calls "Carbo-titanium".

To slow the supercar down, Pagani has fitted the HP Barchetta with huge ventilated 380m discs on all four corners and six-piston calipers to wipe speed as quickly as possible.

Some sources speculate the Zonda HP Barchetta boasts a top speed of 338 km/h, but Pagani has never released the vehicle's official performance specifications.

Even if you had the spare $24 million lying around (potentially even more given Australia's whopping 33 percent luxury car tax) you'd be hard pressed to get your hands on one – Pagani has already reserved one of the three available models as a 60th birthday present to himself.
