About the GT3 Category

The Premise is"A Racing Car for Sale"
Capturing the Users' Hearts and Becoming the Mainstream of GT Racing

The GT3 category (regulation) was launched in 2005 by SRO, an organizer of GT car races in Europe. At the time, there were two GT race regulations, GT1 and GT2. The cost of competing in GT1 had soared, largely due to the competition between the major carmakers. Meanwhile, there were few cars with the potential to win in GT2, which was mainly competed by amateur drivers, and the result was a decline in competitors in both categories. After that, the GT3 category became the mainstream of GT car racing.
The reason behind the popularity of GT3 has been its unique regulation. The GT3 cars are manufactured by the car manufacturers (and their affiliated competition car tuning companies). The cars are sold to the teams and owners, and after that the manufacturers also provide maintenance services. The chassis and the monocoque of the respective base models are used, but there are few detailed regulations concerning the engine. However, the performance of the cars is adjusted by the race management, so that all of the cars can be held to the same performance levels.
From the perspective of the manufacturers, it would be meaningless to devote huge budgets to R&D if, in the end, all of the cars would be restricted to the same performance level and speed, so their focus shifted to pursuing qualities like drivability and the unique character of their models. Meanwhile, from the user's perspective, knowing that they had the same chances of winning with any GT3 car they chose, they could focus more on the style of car they preferred from among the many choices. And, since that shifted the appeal from a winning machine to the car's individuality and style, this meant the fans watching races are also be more likely to cheer for the style of car they like. In this way, GT3 won a larger following because of the skillful way it offered the right balance of appeal for the manufacturers, the users and the fans.

A Racing Car that Anyone from
Pros to Amateurs Can Drive
Used in Races around the World

With this unique appeal, the GT3 category has attracted a growing range of cars, not only from manufacturers in Europe but also Japan and the USA, to include a wide variety of styles. In addition, electronic controls have been approved so that even amateur drivers can drive with confidence. What's more, because they are developed under the assumption that the manufacturers will sell them and provide maintenance services, customers know they can purchase them with the ease of buying a commercial production model and immediately get the speed they want on the racetrack.
Because of all these appealing qualities of GT3 cars, a growing number of race series around the world are now adopting the GT3 regulation. What's more, even in a prominent race like the 24 Hours Nürburgring that is competed by a variety of car categories, it is GT3 that has become a main category.
The system of performance adjustment among car models has been optimized year after year, and no matter which car you buy, as long as the team is capable and the driver is fast, you will be able to compete at the top level, and amateurs who want to improve their skills can also enjoy racing. With this unbeatable combination of the chance to win and the sheer enjoyment of race participation, the GT3 category is sure to remain the mainstream of GT racing.
