Baby Ruth and Oh Henry are very similar bars. In fact, I wonder which came first, because I think you could call it a case of a copy cat treat. Having said that, it is a formula that works, and I enjoy it a lot. The difference between the Baby Ruth and the Oh Henry is in the shape and name of the stuff in the middle. The Oh Henry calls it "fudge" while the Baby Ruth calls it "nougat", even though they're really the same thing. I wonder which is more accurate? Personally, I feel like it’s more of a fudge center, but it is a little chewier like a nougat.
The chocolate in the Baby Ruth was good, nice and smooth. The nuts were also great with a nice crunch and nutty flavour. I like the idea of using caramel to glue everything together, and it is used well in this bar. One nice thing about the classic treats, like Baby Ruth, is that the proportion of caramel, nuts and chocolate is just right. This is something that takes time to master and this bar has been around long enough to do just that.
While I have more of a sentimental attachment to the Oh Henry bar, objectively I think you’d have to have some kind of side by side comparison to judge which is better. This is the kind of competition I’m always up for since I really like them both so much.
