  1. Absolutely delicious. I used recipe #110331 for the onion soup mix, and potato water saved from making mashed potatoes instead of the water. Served with recipe #148484, frozen peas, buttered carrots, green salad and dinner rolls to sop up the gravy. Dessert was recipe #80681. I am going to make the patties again and turn them into hot hamburger sandwiches served with French fries and cole slaw. Filed in my favorite recipes binder. Thanks for posting.

  2. I was looking for a good comfort food meal for dinner with the ingredients I had on hand. This dish turned out delicious! The only thing I changed was used whole grain cracker crumbs instead of bread crumbs because it was quicker and easier to crush those rather than toast and crumble bread. Tasted just like one of my grandmother's meals from my childhood. My 5 year old daughter ate it up, too! The gravy was great on mashed potatoes. Can't wait to share the leftovers with my sister today for lunch! Thank you for the recipe!

  3. This is what TV dinners aspire to be! Good... but not fabulous... I'm thinking it might have been the few changes I made, but maybe not... I used beef broth instead of water and added a can of mushrooms... doubled the gravy since we really like our gravy around here. The last step with the gravy took a lot more water than called for to make it a gravy consistency... Served it with mashed potatoes...I might make this again but it isn't going in our keeper box...

  4. Bravo! Comfort food at it's best! We loved this recipe, and it will be a regular beef dish in our home. I love that is is actually quite healthy, as well as delicious. I think next time, I will replace the breadcrumbs with quick oats (that's how I make my meatloaf) to make it even healthier and more filling. I made this exactly as written, and I would not change a thing. I served it over simple mashed potatoes which were seasoned only with a bit of garlic powder (do NOT add salt to your potatoes, as this recipe is already salty enough!)Thanks for this recipe...I felt like I should feel guily eating it!

  5. DH loves this sort of dish, so I gave it a try and it was very good. I usually chop some onions and just mix it up with the beef. I did add chopped onions to the beef, subbed wheat germ for the breadcrumbs and forgot the Worcestershire. I think next time, I'll skip the breadcrumbs and eggs, as I thought they seemed a bit dry, but I'm keeping the onion soup mix part, as it adds a great flavor. Thanks for a good variation on a classic comfort food!

I hate to bake (almost as much as I hate to vacuum!), and I'll go to great lengths to avoid having to make cookies.

3. Bind the patty together. If you're going for a leaner meat or adding bulky ingredients (eg spring onions, onions, chillies), add an egg and a handful of breadcrumbs to bind the burgers.

Do you put egg in beef patties? ›

Instructions for How to Make Ground Beef Patties for burgers: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, 1 egg, and a generous amount of salt and pepper to season (half tsp each). Egg is a burger binding agent for the ground beef patty. Divide the well mixed beef into four equal round balls and form into patties.

What is the best meat mixture for burgers? ›

A good basic mixture would be to use 50% chuck (the cheap and lean), 25% rib plate (the fatty parts) and 25% brisket (the fatty and beef flavor). Alternative cuts that make a damn good burger without emptying your wallet are round (lean) and navel (the fatty beef belly).

Why add milk to a beef patty? ›

Adding bread and milk to the beef creates burgers that are juicy and tender even when well-done.

How do you keep meat patties from falling apart? ›

Leaner ground beef, like 90% lean or more, is likely to hold together fairly well, but it will often be fairly dry by the time you get it cooked through. Adding an egg per 1–2 lbs of 90–95% lean will do fine. Another way to make amazingly tasty burgers is to season them well before forming them into patties by hand.

How do you keep burger patties from falling apart? ›

Go easy on the shaping. When you're making your burgers, try not to manhandle them too much or else you'll end up breaking the meat into smaller pieces than you have to. We recommend simply shaping the beef into a vague burger shape with the least amount handling as possible.

Should you mix seasoning into burgers? ›

Yes. To ensure the seasoning flavors are well established and distributed throughout, it's a good idea to season both sides of the burger patty. This is especially true if it's a premade burger since you won't be able to mix the seasoning directly into the meat.

What should I season my burgers with? ›

Warm spices, herbs, onions, garlic and even lemon zest are good bets. Plant-based burgers: Patties for store-bought plant-based burgers come pre-seasoned, so they can be cooked straight from the package, no seasoning required.

Is Worcestershire sauce good in hamburgers? ›

Blue cheese, grilled pineapple, or avocado will add a lot of flavor to a classic hamburger. Many, if not all, of these ingredients can already be found in your kitchen and pantry.

What is the best ingredient to bind burgers? ›

Egg: An egg lends moisture and helps bind the patties together. Seasonings, herbs, and sauces: These hamburgers are flavored with an envelope of dry onion soup mix, fresh garlic, garlic powder, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, dried parsley, dried basil, dried oregano, crushed dried rosemary, salt, and pepper.

How do you make hamburger meat more flavorful? ›

Add a flavorful liquid: Add a small amount of beef broth, tomato sauce, or red wine to the ground beef while it cooks to add extra flavor.

What meat does McDonald's use for burgers? ›

Every one of our McDonald's burgers is made with 100% pure beef and cooked and prepared with salt, pepper and nothing else—no fillers, no additives, no preservatives. We use the trimmings of cuts like the chuck, round and sirloin for our burgers, which are ground and formed into our hamburger patties.

Which part of beef is best for burger patty? ›

The perfect patty starts with meat selection. Pictured above is navel end brisket on the left and chuck on the right. Brisket and chuck are my two favourite options for burgers. Short rib has always been quite popular and is excellent however I find can be a bit too expensive.

What percentage of ground beef is best for burgers? ›

To make more healthful burgers—but ones that are still pretty juicy and tasty—choose ground beef that is 80 percent lean and 20 percent fat. Ground beef that contains less than 15 percent fat makes dry and somewhat tasteless burgers.
