What is Commencement Weekend?
- Commencement Weekendis two days ofactivities in Chicagoland (Rosemont, Illinois) to celebrate our graduates’ milestone achievements.
- Saturday, June 8 is DeVry Day-a day when graduates can prepare for what’s next after graduation with networking and celebratory events. DeVry Day is optional for those attending in-person Commencement.
- Sunday, June 9 isCommencement Day!The Graduate Commencement Ceremony take place at 9:30am CT. The time of the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony will be released in early May.
NOTE: Registration is closed for all Commencement ceremonies, in-person and virtual, as well as DeVry Day.

ROSEMONT THEATRE
TRAVEL TIME NOTICE
There are multiple events planned in the Rosemont-area on Commencement Weekend. Please plan your travel appropriately to arrive at the Rosemont Theatre on time.
ARRIVING AT THE VENUEGraduates and their guests will use separate entrances to enter the Rosemont Theatre for Commencement.
- Graduates will use the South Entrance for check-in.
- Graduate Guests will use the East (Main) Entrance.
EVENT PARKING
Graduates will enter in the South Entrance of the Rosemont Theater and Guests will enter through the theater’s Main Entrance. NOTE: There is a fee to park at the Rosemont Theater.
PERSONAL ITEMS
Graduates are responsible for all personal items brought to Commencement. Please do not bring purses or bags into the ceremony. Instead, we recommend leaving personal items with your guests before the ceremony begins.COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM
The digital Commencement program will be provided at Commencement. Graduates will also receive a text message with the program link on Sunday, June 9.
FLOWERS AND MEMORABILIA
Jostens representatives will be onsite for graduates and guests wishing to purchase graduate sashes and other memorabilia. A florist will be onsite for those interested in purchasing flowers.
POST-CEREMONY PICTURES
We kindly ask all graduates to take pictures outside to avoid congestion within the venue and auditorium space.VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES What if I'm unable to attend in-person?

LOCATION Where can I stay in Rosemont for Commencement Weekend?
- DeVry University has secured a discounted group rate for rooms at the Westin O’Hare for Commencement Weekend in Rosemont. If you or your guests would like to reserve a room at the DeVry group rate, click here or call the central reservation office at 888.235.2427 by May 17.
- NOTE: Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Information about other hotels in the Rosemont area can be found by clicking here.
Will there be future ceremonies in other cities outside of Chicago?
- At present, DeVry plans to host Commencement Weekend annually with Chicago - our “home” town - as the most appropriate location.
- Graduates from across the country are invited to attend Commencement either in-person or virtually.
- DeVry will not be hosting Commencement ceremonies in other cities at this time.
Why Rosemont, Illinois? Will there be ceremonies in other cities?
- Rosemont is a nearby suburb of Chicago and close to O’Hare airport. Since Chicago is our “home” town, it is the most appropriate location to host Commencement Weekend.
- DeVry will not be hosting commencement ceremonies in other cities at this time.
COMMENCEMENT ELIGIBILITY Am I eligible to participate in commencement?
- Graduates and expected graduates must meet all graduation requirements by the conclusion of the March 2024 session to participate in either the in-person or virtual Commencement Ceremonies.
NOTE: Any student who is registered to attend Commencement but fails to fulfill graduation requirements by the end of the March 2024 session will forfeit their eligibility. Instead, they will receive an invitation to a future ceremony once all graduation requirements have been satisfied.
What are the graduation requirements for undergraduate students?
- To graduate, students in undergraduate programs (Certificate Programs, Associate and Bachelor's degrees) must:
- Achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 or higher.
- Satisfactorily complete all curriculum and program requirements.

What are the graduation requirements for graduate students?
- Students in graduate programs (Master’s degrees) must:
- Fulfill all program course requirements.
- Achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00 or higher.
- Successfully complete all required prerequisite skills courses with grades of B (3.00) or higher.
- Ensure the Registrar receives an official transcript validating completion of a baccalaureate degree from a University-recognized postsecondary institution.
NOTE: Students who have completed Graduate Certificates ONLY are not eligible to participate in Commencement.

NOTE: The registration deadline for In-Person and Virtual Commencement has passed.
Can my family and friends attend?
- Yes.Graduates may bring up to four guests to the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 9.
- Additional guest tickets will not be provided under any circ*mstances.
- Wristbands for guest entry will be available for pickup on the day of Commencement on Sunday, June 9.
Do my guests need to RSVP?
- Guests do not need to RSVP.
- Guest wristbands MUST be picked up by GUESTS at one of the designated Guest Wristband Check-In tables, located at the main entrance of the Rosemont Theater.
- Guests will be given one envelope containing their graduate’s entire allocation of guest wristbands (up to four total per graduate). Guests should distribute amongst their group accordingly for entry into the theatre.Wristband envelopes will be picked up by providing graduate's first name, last name, and date of birth.
- No guests will be admitted to Commencement without a guest wristband.
- Due to limited venue space, no additional guest tickets will be allocated. Please plan accordingly.
WHAT NOT TO BRING TO COMMENCEMENT
To help ensure an enjoyable commencement celebration for all, please note the following items will NOT be allowed at the Commencement venue:
- Balloons
- Signage larger than 8” x 10”
- Noise makers / Bells / Blowhorns
DECORATING MORTAR BOARDS (GRADUATION CAPS)
Graduates must adhere to DeVry’s mortar board decoration guidelines. Any graduate who fails to follow the below guidelines will be required to forfeit their mortar board prior to walking in the commencement ceremony.
- Only the flat top of the mortar board may be decorated
- The mortar board tassel must not be altered or moved
- All décor must lay flat with nothing hanging or dangling off of cap
- No offensive language, sayings, nicknames, pictures or lyrics
- No symbols for or references to alcohol, controlled substances, tobacco or weapons
- No images or phrases that threaten the safety and/or welfare of any person no matter of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin
- No noise makers of any kind
- No lighted objects
My guest(s) require an ADA accommodation. What should I do?
- If you or your guest(s) require an ADA accommodation, contact DeVry’s Office of Student Disability Services at ADA@devry.edu.
Am I required to order a cap and gown?
- Caps and gowns are required for the in-person ceremony.
- Graduates participating in the Virtual Commencements are not required to wear a cap and gown. However, those graduates will be asked to submit a photo of themselves to be displayed during the ceremony.Graduates may purchase cap and gown for that photo if desired.
If I decide to order regalia, what pieces will I need?
- Undergrad regalia includes a gown, cap and tassel.
- Master’s regalia includes a master’s gown, master’s hood, cap and tassel.
What color regalia should I order?
- Undergraduate students: Cap and gown are black, tassel color is dependent on college.
- Graduate students: Cap, gown, and tassel are black. Master Hood color is dependent on college.
- Color designations are as follows:
- College of Business & Management – Drab
- College of Engineering & Information Sciences – Orange
- College of Health Sciences – Gold
- College of Liberal Arts & Sciences – White
- College of Media Arts & Technology – Brown
Do both the in-person and virtual ceremonies require regalia?
- In-Person Attendees: Regalia is required for in-person Commencement.
- Virtual Attendees: While regalia is not required for Virtual Commencement, graduates have the option to order a cap and gown to submit their celebratory photo.
Is my Jostens order refundable, for any reason?
- Jostens orders cannot be returned and are not refundable.
What is the honors cutoff to determine whether or not I will be recognized during commencement?
- Students who have graduated and earned the honors/distinction by the end of the March 2024 session will be recognized with honors at Commencement.
Do you provide honors cords and/or veterans cords? What color cords will I receive?
- Honors cords and veteran cords will be provided during the in-person ceremonies.
- For virtual ceremonies, honors cords will be mailed directly to the address provided, along with the diploma cover.

If I am a part of a club or organization, how does that reflect in my regalia?
- Please reach out to your chapter advisor for more information regarding your regalia.
What if I don’t order my cap and gown in time?
- Students can order solid black caps and gowns from online vendors, including Amazon.
When can I expect to receive my diploma?
- Your diploma is shipped approximately 8 to 10 weeks after your degree is conferred.
Can more than one diploma be ordered?
- Only one can be ordered.
Can my diploma be shipped to a PO Box or International Address?
- No. Diplomas can only be shipped to a physical United States-based address.
