RECALL PROCESS UPDATES

Has there been an update to the recall announced on 5/20?

No. The FDA has issued a report sharing details of its investigation in partnership with our teams. We are confident in the food safety processes we have in place that have helped us to quickly take action as well as the enhanced measures we have put in place, including additional testing and sanitation.

With confidence in our food safety processes and the additional measures we have put in place, we are working as efficiently as possible to return our products tostoreshelves.We have resumed accepting orders from our retail customers for peanut butter and products should be back on shelves a few weeks after orders are placed.We suggest referring to your preferred retailer for thebest availability informationlocally.

What was the cause of the recall/how have you addressed any issues?

As part of our standard control process, we identified that an equipment issue may have allowed water to enter and remain in our production environment. These conditions could have provided a potential source for bacteria to be introduced into our system.In response, we have:

- Repaired the equipment

- Conducted extensive cleaning and sanitation throughout our facility;

- Destroyed product;

- Refined our cleaning process;

- Strengthened our already rigorous finished product testing standards; and

- Collected and tested hundreds of swabs throughout our facility, all of which were negative for Salmonella

The FDA also collected environmental swabs as part of its investigation of the recall and communicated that these swabs were negative for Salmonella.

Were other peanut-related products impacted or are your other manufacturing facilities impacted?

This recall was isolated to our Lexington, KY, manufacturing facility, and does not impact our other peanut butter-producing facilities. In addition, there is no impact to Smucker’s Uncrustables, Santa Cruz Organic, Laura Scudder’s, Adam’s, Smucker’s Natural, Smucker’s Goober or any other J.M. Smucker Co. brand. While our other peanut butter-producing facilities and brands were not impacted, we will take learnings from this event and apply them across our manufacturing facilities, as appropriate.
