It’s hard to believe now, but it’s been almost four years since Ford revealed the all-new Bronco SUV back in 2020. At launch, the brand received some backlash for not launching an all-new SUV in the 2020s with neither a hybrid nor an electric option‚ but while Ford has not explicitly confirmed that battery power is coming to the Bronco, it’s a good bet that a Bronco EV will arrive before the end of the decade.

Ford doesn’t comment on future products, but there have been some quasi-official hints that a Bronco EV is in the works. Ford CEO Jim Farley intimated that the brand was exploring EV options for the Bronco back in 2021. One of the silhouettes Ford used when previewing vehicles on its new EV platforms was a boxy SUV with a spare tire fixed to the rear.
In addition, when the new SUv launched, there was a leak about the Bronco having an “EV Coaching” mode in its digital gauge cluster. That said, that may refer to a hybrid with an EV-only mode rather than a full-electric vehicle.
We don’t know yet. Ford’s Global VP of Product Design Anthony Lo did throw out 400 miles as a potential target range for a hypothetical EV Bronco to Newsweek; that could be a reasonable range for Ford to try to hit.
We’d also bet that an eventual Bronco EV output will be higher than the 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque from the Bronco Raptor in top spec, based on the fact that Ford’s electric F-150 Lightning makes more power than the F-150 Raptor.
When will the Bronco EV arrive?

Ford has not announced a launch date for an electric Bronco yet. But don’t expect it to arrive imminently.
An AutoForecastSolutions projection has electric Bronco and Ranger vehicles arriving on a new TE1 platform (alongside new combustion models) in 2029. The projection has the Bronco EV entering production in November 2029, which would likely make it a 2030 model-year vehicle. That timeline would line up with the Bronco receiving a refresh in 2025.
But Ford has been ratcheting back its EV forecasts lately. And the timeline may have been pushed back even further. Autoweek reported that the Bronco EV timeline had been pushed back until the early 2030s. A plug-in hybrid Bronco related to an eventual Ranger PHEV could arrive first.
Could a Bronco Sport EV arrive first?

Ford relaunched Bronco as a family of vehicles, so it’s conceivable that the first Bronco-branded EV may not be a full-on Bronco. Newsweek believes Ford is more likely to launch a more mass-market Bronco Sport EV before the full-on electric Bronco. That would fit with Ford’s plans to emphasize smaller, cheaper EVs.
