How to install Otaku on Kodi - Anime add-on [June 2024] (2024)

Otaku is an addon that allows you to stream anime on Kodi. It is the successor of Kaito Beta, and it offers many great features like continuous playback, anime airing calendar, subbed and dubbed categories, skip intro and next episode dialogues, and more.

This addon can find anime movies and episodes on websites that are freely available on the internet. A premium account is not required to use Otaku, but using a Real Debrid, Premiumize or All Debrid account will get you more sources and better quality videos.

In this guide, we are going to install Otaku in Kodi. Let’s get started!

1. Install Otaku on Kodi

If this is yourfirst time installing add-ons on Kodi, you will need to allow the installation of unofficial add-ons. Please readHow to allow 3rd-party add-ons on Kodiand come back here when you’re ready.

1.1. Install Hooty’s Repository

Let’s add a link to Otaku’s official source on Hooty’s GitHub page, This allows us to download the repository zip file directly on Kodi.

1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the screen.

2. Select File manager.

3. Press Add source.

4. Enter https://goldenfreddy0703.github.io/repository.hootyin the top box and repository.hooty on the bottom one. Press OK to add the source.

Now that we’ve added the source, let’s use it to download and install the repository zip file.

5. Go back to the Settings menu and this time select Add-ons.

6. Click on Install from zip file.

You’ll see a message about the auto-update feature. Press Yes to proceed.

7. Select repository.hooty.

8. Click on repository.hooty-x.x.zip to download and install the repository.

1.2. Install Otaku add-on

Now that the repository is installed, let’s use it to download Otaku and its dependencies.

9. Press Install from repository.

10. Select Hooty’s Repository.

11. Press Video add-ons.

12. Select Otaku.

13. Press the Install button.

14. Press OK to install the add-on and its dependencies. Wait a couple of seconds for the installation process to finish.

15. Go back to the Home Screen and select the Add-ons tab, press on Otaku to open the add-on.

16. Use the add-on’s menu to find your favorite anime.

All done! Now you’re ready to stream anime on Kodi with Otaku.

2. Customize Otaku

Let’s take a look at some customizations for the add-on. These steps are not required, but some users might find them useful.

2.1. Change anime title language

You can choose to display anime titles in English or Romaji (Japanese with Roman characters).

1. Select Tools on Otaku’s main menu.

2. Press Open Settings Menu.

3. Go to the General Tab and change Title Language according to your preferences. Press OK to save the changes.

2.2. Select preferred audio language

Some videos have many audio channels for different languages. Setting a preferred audio stream will make sure to play the correct audio track on multi-language videos.

1. Select Tools on Otaku’s main menu.

2. Press Open Settings Menu.

3. Go to the Playback Tab and change Preferred Audio Stream (Dual Audio) and the other preferences to your liking. Press OK to save the changes.

2.3. Manually selecting sources

By default, Otaku will automatically pick a source to play from the scraped results. You can change the Play Style settings to see a list of available sources and select one manually.

1. Select Tools on Otaku’s main menu.

2. Press Open Settings Menu.

3. Go to the Playback Tab, change Movie Play Style and Episode Play Style to Source Select. Press OK to save the changes.

Now, when you select a movie or episode, you’ll see a list of available sources.

4. Select a source to start playing the selected movie or episode.

3. Using Real Debrid with Otaku

Using a premium Debrid account with Otaku is not required, but it will help you find more sources and better quality videos.

Debrid services offer unrestricted access to file hosters andcached torrents. When using cached torrents,your device will not connect directly to the p2p network, instead, Real Debrid will fetch the file for you and allow you to get it as a normal download via HTTPS.

In this example we’re going to useReal Debrid, a popular service to get access to cached torrents and various file hosters for a very low price.

1. Select Tools on Otaku’s main menu.

2. Press Open Settings Menu.

3. Scroll down to the Accounts tab. Activate Enable Real-Debrid and press Authorize Real-Debrid.

4. Copy the authorization code.

5. Using a web browser, visit https://real-debrid.com/deviceand enter theauthorization code. (You must be logged into your Real Debrid account).

6. Type Otaku and Press Set that name.

Back on Kodi, you’ll see a success notification. Otaku can now access premium sources. Select a movie or episode to start streaming.
