The baking queen's 'twin' helped make 60s canapés on last night's Mary Berry Everyday

Mary Berry has revealed her legitimate double as she introduced viewers to her best friend Shirley Nightingale.

The former Great British Bake Off judge left viewers stunned on last night's final episode of Mary Berry Everyday after bringing round "one of her oldest friends" with a strikingly similar appearance.

Shirley proved to be more than just a 'stunt double' as the duo made canapés together, while Mary revealed they had worked together as home economists during the 1960s.

Mary's 'twin' also helped her get ready and decorate her cake on the morning of her wedding 50 years ago, with viewers questioning if she had been "cloned".

Mary said: "When it comes to getting showy, one of my oldest friends Shirley and I had great fun working as home economists back in the 60s."

Wearing matching red nail varnish and rocking blonde hairdos, the pair made asparagus rolls as they reminisced about their experiences together.

Mary admitted she thought tinned asparagus wrapped in bread and butter was "sheer luxury" back in her younger years, but wasn't as big of a fan now.

The ex Bake Off star was preparing a golden anniversary dinner to celebrate half a century of marriage to Paul Hunnings, who took her on an unimpressive honeymoon to Shipton-under-Wychwood in Oxfordshire.

This wasn't the first time Shirley helped the cooking legend get ready fro a big day, as the pair did a bit of last minute cake decoration on the morning of Mary's wedding.

Shirley said: "This really takes me back Mary, you and I working together like this."

Viewers sent Twitter into meltdown after seeing Mary's 'double' walk up the driveway and into her house.
