Live updates and analysis as the transfer portal opens Dec. 5 ahead of the 2023 college football season

The NCAA transfer portal cycle for 2023 has officially opened. The portal has fully cranked into gear with the FBS transfer window beginning Dec. 5 and ending Jan. 18. A number of college football players had announced their intentions to transfer prior to Monday, but some of the bigger names in the sport revealed on Monday after the window had opened that they will be seeking fresh starts elsewhere.

Given that more than 3,000 FBS players entered the transfer portal during the 2021-22 cycle, the season's edition should be wild considering NIL rights and one-time transfer exemptions. There will be a similar volume of players looking to enter the portal, but with the new windows, they'll pop up in a far more compressed period. "It makes Dec. 5 the most important day on the college football calendar," a Pac-12 staffer told 247Sports' Chris Hummer.

There are already numerous big-name players in the portal like quarterbacks Cade McNamara (Michigan), Brennan Armstrong (Virginia), Graham Mertz (Wisconsin), Kedon Slovis (Pittsburgh) and Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State). DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson) also entered the portal on Monday. With the early signing period for recruiting just over two weeks away, the sooner players enter the portal, the longer they'll have to decide their futures.

CBS Sports and 247Sports will be covering the transfer portal window from top to bottom with a live tracker, updated rankings and much more. Hit the key links below and keep scrolling for live updates.
