According to a study by LendingTree, drivers of certain car brands have earned their poor reputations, and the data shows.
The study also breaks down with brands that have the worst drivers regarding accidents, speeding, DUIs, and more.

Based on analyzing insurance quote data of 30 car brands from LendingTree, the study found that Ram had the worst drivers overall. Nationwide, Ram drivers were reported to be involved in 32.90 driving incidents per 1,000 drivers between November 14th, 2022, and November 14th, 2023. The incidents reported in this study included accidents, DUIs, speeding, and citations.
Ram trucks are known for housing powerful engines with impressive levels of horsepower and torque. For example, the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX comes equipped with a Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine with enough acceleration to send the truck from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
The electric brand, Tesla, which is also known for its instant acceleration and performance, ranked second on the list.
Subaru placed third for having the worst drivers, having 30.09 driving incidents per 1,000 drivers. Overall, Ram, Tesla, and Subaru were the only car brands whose drivers had incident rates higher than 30.00.

Overall, Ram ranked first for having the worst drivers after data showed that they were involved in more accidents, DUIs, speeding, and citations than any other brand from November 14th, 2022, through November 14th, 2023. Ram drivers were also ranked first in 23 U.S. states, with Massachusetts having the highest rate of 64.44 incidents per 1,000 drivers.
Mercury had the best drivers overall, with the lowest rate of 15.82 incidents per 1,000 drivers.
Tesla drivers were involved in the most accidents. According to data, Tesla drivers were involved in 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers. Ram placed second with 22.76 accidents, and Subaru in third with 20.90 accidents.
BMW ranked first with the highest DUI rate of 3.13 per 1,000 drivers. Ram was ranked second with 1.72, nearly half of BMW’s rate.
