Our History
Founded in Topeka, Kansas, as the Continental Creamery Company, Meadow Gold® Dairy has been producing fresh dairy products since 1901. Back then, the name “Meadow Gold” was selected by employees to describe the golden quality of our fresh creamery butter.
During the early days, horse-drawn milk wagons were in use. But in the 1940s, refrigerated milk trucks were introduced, and the home delivery business exploded.
By the mid 1940s, the Meadow Gold name had moved west, specifically to Utah, where the Arden family took on the name to become Arden’s Meadow Gold Dairy. "This is a product that everybody’s wife and kids and grandmother drinks and we take pride in it," says one longtime employee. Eventually, the name was shortened to just Meadow Gold Dairy.
Today, Meadow Gold is the Intermountain Region’s largest full-service dairy, producing milk, cream, sour cream, butter, plus a full line of ice cream and frozen treats. With six locations in Boise, Billings, Great Falls, Englewood, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, Meadow Gold lives in the heart of the communities we serve.
Our farmer-owners work hard to uphold our values by taking care of our cows, our people, our community and our environment. In fact, producing a gallon of milk today takes 90% less land with a 63% smaller carbon footprint than in 1944.* And for us, nothing could be more refreshing.*International Dairy Journal
