"There was much consternation over potential changes to the track-focused, top-of-the-line neunelf (that’s German for “911”) before its release. Would Porsche move the engine from Ferdinand Porsche’s anointed rear-placement? Would turbo-charging be utilized? In the end, the answer was no to both questions. The latest GT3 RS is naturally-aspirated and the incredible 4.0-liter flat-six is in the rear, where it was meant to be. Adding to 500 horsepower and its screaming-high redline, the RS is 22 pounds lighter than the already lithe GT3. Rear-wheel steering and all the accouterments of the best track car on the planet are also right where they should be."

Synopsis[]
The 991-codenamed GT3 RS is a lightweight track-focused model that was offered in Porsche's 911 model lineup for the 2015 to 2017 model years. Unlike previous model generations, the 991 GT3 RS no longer offers a manual transmission and is exclusively available with Porsche's 7-speed PDK automatic transmission.
The GT3 RS is the succeeding model to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 and its base variant, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997). It was replaced in February 2018 by the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Performance[]
Following the tradition of Porsche's RS (Rennsport) cars, the GT3 RS draws power from a naturally aspirated flat-six engine bored out to four litres. It revs up to 8800 rpm and produces 493 hp (368 kW) and 339 ft·lb (460 N·m) of torque. Much like with the 911 GT3 RS 4.0, it launches off the line with very little wheelspin.
Requiring only 3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h), as well as 7 seconds for 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h), the GT3 RS is able to recover its speed quickly upon corner exits. It reaches a top speed of over 200 mph (322 km/h) in the Horizon series and 196 mph (315 km/h) in Forza Motorsport 7.
Its rear-engine architecture along with the downforce provided by its aerodynamic upgrades and racing tires give the GT3 RS sharp steering and grip. Weighing only 3131 lb (1420 kg), it counts as one of the lightest Porsche production cars.[2]
Variants[]
Preorder Car[]
The Preorder Car - abbreviated as 911 GT3 RS PO - is an S2998 variant in Forza Horizon 4 that is unlocked upon reaching Level 20 in The Eliminator. It was exclusive for Amazon pre-orders of the title, although it can be bought by players on any release in the Auction House.
It also comes with upgrades unavailable for the standard variant including a Racing V12 engine swap, as well as engine upgrades that increase the power output to 1555 hp (1160 kW). In comparison, the standard variant can only get 960 hp (716 kW) as maximum.
911 Turbo S[]
- Main article: Porsche 911 Turbo S
The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S is a grand tourer variant with AWD and a turbocharged engine featured in all main series Forza titles since Forza Motorsport 6.

Trivia[]
- In Forza Horizon 3, the 2016 GT3 RS is the only car that cannot be purchased for free from the Autoshow after downloading the Porsche Car Pack.
- Its engine appears as an Engine Swap, known as 4.0L F6, for various Porsche cars in Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Horizon 4. Both games also have the identically named 4.0L F6 engine swap from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 that is offered for different Porsche models and has higher maximum performance figures.
- In Forza Motorsport 7, the steering wheel could be erroneously seen from the Driver Camera View perspective although this was fixed with the February 15, 2018 update.
- In Forza Horizon 4, the 911 GT3 RS Preorder Car is the only Preorder car that can be unlocked as a Horizon Life level reward.
