This Barely Driven Porsche 918 Spyder Could Fetch $2 Million at Auction (2024)

Porsche may have wrapped up production of the 918 Spyder nearly a decade ago but there are still mint-condition examples out there. You just need to know where to look.

One such 918 Spyder with the Weissach Package is currently being auctioned in Hong Kong via Sotheby’s Sealed. The silver supercar has barely been touched since leaving the factory—it was never even registered—and only has delivery mileage on the odometer.

The 918 Spyder is widely considered to be one of the finest supercars of the century, but it’s also one of the most important. It made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show as a concept that paired a typically slick Porsche design with an electrified powertrain, which was the sort of thing you just didn’t see in a top-rate sports car at the time. The model would go into production three years later and helped pave the way for some of the most exhilarating vehicles currently on the market—as well as the upcoming hybrid 911. Porsche built 918 examples between 2013 and 2015, all of which were spoken for before production was complete.

This 918 Spyder is from the final year of production and is finished in a pleasing coat of Rhodium Silver Metallic with glossy black side-view mirrors, a removable roof and a rear spoiler. The two-seat interior, meanwhile, is covered in black leather and exposed carbon-fiber trim. The design still holds up a decade on, but this example also comes with the weight-saving Weissach aerodynamic kit that adds more carbon fiber elements, an extended rear diffuser, and magnesium BBS wheels.

The 918 Spyder may be one of the more attractive supercars in recent memory, but it owes its reputation to its hybrid powertrain. The vehicle’s high-tech setup consists of a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V-8 and front- and rear-mounted electric motors that combine to produce 877 horses and 944 ft lbs of twist which is split between each wheel via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. At the time of its release, Porsche said the 918 Spyder could rocket from zero to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 214 mph. This example should have little trouble hitting either mark since it only has 43 miles on the odometer.

This Sotheby’s Sealed auction runs through Friday, August 5. The auction house expects the supercar to sell for between $1.5 million and $2 million. That’s more than twice what the vehicle cost originally, but considering that this example of the storied model is untouched that sounds realistic.
