TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Toyota leads the top position in the list of most sold car brands in the world in 2023. The Japanese car manufacturer is still dominating the automotive market for 14 consecutive years.
A market intelligence and consultancy firm specializing in the four-wheeler industry, Focus2Move collects the latest light vehicle registration data from various brands in 159 countries around the world.
Then, they extracted the data poured into the Global Auto Database to determine the ranking of the best-selling cars.
"The ranking of the world's best-selling car brands in 2023 shows little change due to the growth of companies focused on the production of electric vehicles," wrote Focus2Move.
The 10 best-selling car brands in the world last year are as follows.

1. Toyota
Toyota sold 9.07 million vehicles in 2023, up 4.1 percent from the previous year. There were dozens of models launched last year, including the All New Agya GR Sport, All New Corolla Cross GR Sport HEV, New Hilux Box, New Yaris GR Sport, All New Yaris Cross, and RAV4 GR Sport PHEV.
2. Volkswagen (VW)
In second place, Volkswagen dominates the global market by selling 5.1 million cars, up 7 percent compared to 2022.
There are two superior VW products appearing at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), namely the New Golf GTI and the All New Tiguan Allspace 7-seater SUV.
3. Honda
Honda is reported to be able to sell 3.9 million car units in 2023, up 3.7 percent from the previous year.

In fourth place, Hyundai released 3.8 million car units on a global scale last year, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile in Indonesia, PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia will introduce the Hyundai Kona Electric, Hyundai Palisade Flagship SUV, and Hyundai Ioniq Electric throughout 2023.
5. Ford
Furthermore, the best-selling car brand in the world throughout 2023 is Ford, which was able to sell 3.7 units of its cars, up 4.4 percent compared to 2022.
In 2023, Ford, through RMA Indonesia, as its distributor in Indonesia, will present the latest generation Ford Everest.
6. Nissan
In sixth position, Nissan is recorded as selling 3.3 million units of its cars in 2023, or an increase of 8.5 percent.
At the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), Nissan is showcasing the New Nissan Kicks e-POWER, Nissan Livina, and Nissan Serena.
7. Chevrolet
Chevrolet is said to have marketed 3.29 million units of its four-wheeled vehicle products by 2023. Some of the most popular Chevrolet models are the Trax, Spark, Trailblazer and Colorado.
8. Kia
Next, there is Kia, which is reported to have sold 3 million units of cars last year, an increase of 2.2 percent. At the GIIAS automotive exhibition, Thursday, August 10 2023, Kia launched its newest series of electric SUV cars, namely the Kia EV9 GT-Line.
9. BYD
In ninth place, there is a car manufacturer from China, BYD, which has sold 2.6 million units or a drastic increase of up to 48.8 percent.
Meanwhile, in 2019, BYD was only in 49th position. As an EV-focused manufacturer, BYD is also still launching ICEs which represent more than half of the company's sales.
10. Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz is one of the best-selling car brands in the world throughout 2023, namely 2.2 million unit sales, up 0.6 percent.
The luxury car manufacturer from Germany was able to surpass BMW's position in the premium segment. Meanwhile, BMW is in 11th place with sales of 2.2 million units too.
