Tortilla Bowl, How to Make Tortilla Bowls (1)
Our family can’t get enough Mexican food, so tortillas are a stock piled staple since I use them in so many recipes and Mexican freezer meals. I honestly don’t think our pantry has been without them in over two years.
Sometimes it’s just fun to do something different, especially when it’s so simple to be creative. Why not take an extra minute of your time and make some Tortilla Bowls.
There are various ways to do this, including baking them in the oven, but since most of us have microwaves, I’ll give you the 1 1/2 minute version.

    • In a 4 cup microwave safe bowl, gently press one tortilla to form a bowl shape.
    • Microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes.
    • Let cool for one minute.
    • Gently lift out of the bowl and arrange on serving plate.
    • Repeat with remaining tortillas and enjoy!
    • To serve, the sky is the limit. Here we spooned chili into the bowl and garnished with shredded cheese and sour cream.

Another variation on thisuses an upside down muffin tin. It’s the perfect way to make small, appetizer sized bowls for salsa, guacamole or any dip. Just take small or medium size tortillas, bunch them up and bake them for a few minutes.

We do not own a microwave. I do it all in the oven. IS there a place I can find the over directions??? I LOVE this idea. You are sooo creative!

I’ve so wanted to try this in my oven for a while, but when I saw your microwave method, I’m right on board. I made one for myself the other night. Mine seemed to need longer than 1 1/2 minutes, b/c all microwaves vary. I noticed yours look a little brown. Mine was crunchy and chewy in some spots. I wonder if olive oil spray would help. I need a fluted bowl like yours too. Gotta keep my eye at at a yard sale. Thanks for posting this.

Yes, microwaves are all different, and olive oil would be great. You can actually start it in the microwave and put it in the oven for just a second to crisp it everywhere.

These worked for me in microwave. I didn’t think they would but they did. A great summer recipe because you don’t have to use the oven.

Microwaving tortilla bowls works great. Metal forms and oven giving “bubbly” deformed bowls. Not using oil inside or out. Suggestions?
    Thanks! Great website!

I am not sure if this option is available where you guys are at, but in China, the microwave we use has a “bake” option. So, it doubles as an oven. The think the term it uses is “lightwave cooking”. Does this make sense to anyone?
Anyways, I use that option when I want to go “oven”, which is probably the setting I would put it on when doing this lovely recipe.
    Wow I’m hungry now. lol

One slight error in the instructions: After letting the cool, it says, “Gently life out of the bowl . . . ,” though I’m sure you must’ve meant “LIFT.”
