The Dodge Viper has a reputation for being one of the most dangerous cars in the world, challenging even the most experienced race car drivers. But there will always be guys like Formula Drift (FD) Pro driver Dean Kearney who dare to push notorious cars to the limit.
In the latest video of Drift HQ on YouTube, Kearney showcased the HyperNFT Dodge Viper he uses in the series to Adam LZ. According to the 43-year-old driver, the Viper is the most powerful drift car in the world, capable of churning out as much as 1,800 horsepower. But the power is usually restricted to around 1,000 to 1,300 hp, depending on the track.
Of note, this isn't the most powerful Dodge Viper build we've seen (so far). That credit goes to Calvo Motorsports, which tuned the coupe to an incredible output of 3,000 hp.
The whopping power is delivered by an 8.3-liter V10 engine, fitted with a twin Garrett turbo setup. To suit the driver's preference, weight distribution works were incorporated, and a 48.8/51.2 front-to-rear weight ratio was the go-to. Kearney also highlighted the work done on the suspension, which he said took years and a lot of money to build.
Of course, the stop at the LZ compound wouldn't be complete without going out for a few drifts. Kearney went out first, looking very composed in his runs. When Adam's turn was up, the driveshaft snapped right off the bat. After fixing the issue, he went out ripping the car with more confidence, drifting like he stole it. At one point, you can see its front wheels lifting off the ground while on a violent slide.
Kearney said the Dodge Viper isn't the cheapest ticket to the drifting scene. He suggested the Honda S2000 is a good alternative car, claiming that it "feels exactly the same, just a little bit smaller." For those who might want more power, an LS swap for the two-seater JDM is one of the suggested builds.
After the thrilling stay at the LZ compound, the next stop for Kearney is Englishtown in New Jersey for the fourth round of the 2023 FD season happening from June 22 to 24.
