Burcu Yankın was born in 1980 in Istanbul. She starts dealing with music in the Folklore Club of the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul by participating as a percussionist and a vocalist. After the graduation she was a percussionist and a vocalist in the well-known project Kardeş Türküler (Songs of Fraternity).

She participated in several music projects with important figures such as Arto Tunçboyacıyan, Birol Topaloğlu, Mikail Aslan, Erkan Oğur and Sezen Aksu. Her interest on Kurdish music and culture was accompanied by language education. Kurdish lessons from Dildar Şêxo, Zana Farqînî and Cuma Çiçek affected artists perpective on Kurdish culture and language.

Now, she also learns Persian to develop her knowledge on Kurdish, Azerbaijani and Persian cultures. From that perspective she has an understanding on musical and cultural connections which is rooted in her music. Burcu Yankın’s first solo album /Mother-Root contains of her own Kurdish lyrics and music is released by BGST Records.
