Air Fryer Crispy Green Beans

It’s hard when you’re trying to eat healthier, but the only thing you’re craving is something crunchy, salty, and a bit cheesy. If you can’t shake that craving, you’re in luck! Put down the Doritos and instead, make these quick and easy air fryer crispy green beans. Dare I say, they’re even more satisfying than Doritos… While kids still prefer chips as their snack, I’d much rather have these crunchy veggies.

While they’re still coated in panko breadcrumbs, these green beans are still way healthier than most crunchy snacks. That’s because they’re fresh veggies that are air fried and not fried in grease, of course! Did you know that green beans are low in calories, super rich with vitamin K, and have a pretty awesome amount of calcium, too? You certainly won’t find any of that in a bag of your favorite chips.

Also, I don’t know what I’d do without my trusty air fryer. I’ve become so spoiled with it! I love how quick and easy it makes recipes like this one. From start to finish, these green beans only take about 25 minutes to make, which is perfect when I’m hungry and needing a midday snack. Plus, with the air frying cooking method, you get all the crunch of fried food with none of the grease. It’s the best way to enjoy fried food!

How to Make Crispy Green Beans

  1. Prepare the green beans. Wash the green beans, but don’t dry them! If they are a little wet, the flour will stick to them better.
  2. Make the dredging stations. Place the flour in a medium bowl. Place the beaten eggs in the second medium bowl. And finally, combine the panko breadcrumbs and grated parmesan cheese in a third medium bowl.
  3. Dip the beans. Take one bean at a time, fist dip it the flour, followed by the eggs, and finally dip in the panko bread mixture. Repeat with the rest of the green beans.
  4. Air fry them. Place the green beans in a single layer in the basket of the air fryer. You will have to do 2 batches. Cook at 380 ˚F for 10 minutes, Stir halfway through cooking.
  5. Enjoy! Serve the air fried green beans immediately while they’re still warm with a dipping sauce if desired. Enjoy your new favorite health-conscious snack!

My favorite Air Fryer can be used for so many recipes and doubles as a dehydrator. Great bang for your buck!

How To Make In the Oven

You sure can! If you don’t have an air fryer, don’t worry. This snack can be baked, and the crunch is still satisfying either way! Just preheat the oven to 400°F, prepare the green beans the same way you would for the air fryer, than bake them for 12 minutes, stirring half way through.

Storage

In an airtight container in the refrigerator, these green beans will stay fresh for up to 4 days. To reheat them, just pop them right back into the air fryer that’s set to 350°F for about 3 minutes or so until they’re warmed through. I don’t recommend using the microwave – it’ll just make them soggy and limp.

Dipping Sauce Suggestions

Ranch is the way to go! To make the ranch sauce the best that it can be, try using my favorite Easy Homemade Ranch Seasoning. However, there are plenty of other dipping sauces out there that could accompany these green beans perfectly! If ranch isn’t your thing, pick a sauce that you like and feel free to get creative. Honestly, I bet Yum Yum Sauce would be a huge hit with these air fried crispy green beans!

I really liked these. Next time I’m going to add some spices to the panko mix, maybe some paprika and cayenne, they were just a little bland to me. I used them as a substitute for chips with a sandwich and they worked great!

Great suggestion! It is a pretty basic flavor so it could definitely use some additional seasonings if you’re looking for more pop!

FAQs

Why are my vegetables not crispy from the air fryer? ›

Overcrowding the basket will cause the vegetables to steam, not brown. Only add as many as will fit in a single layer. Then, air fry the vegetables at 375°F for 10 to 15 minutes, or until tender and browned. Toss halfway through the cooking time so that they brown evenly.

Why are my green beans not crispy? ›

Make sure you spread out the green beans. They can overlap some, but you want as much surface area exposed to the heat as possible for crispness. Along the same lines, you can technically double this recipe, but remember that the more you make at once, the less crispy the green beans will be.

How to make Crispier air fryer? ›

However, a small amount of oil is usually necessary to achieve a crispy texture. A drizzle or a quick oil spray is all you need for restaurant-quality fries and golden brown fried chicken, while other foods don't need any oil, like pizza or leftovers you might reheat.

Why are things not getting crispy in the air fryer? ›

Dry the outside of the food properly before you add oil. Do not use too much oil, as this will make the food less crispy and more fattening. Meat or poultry can be lightly brushed with oil or marinated to get the crispiest results.

How do you make crispy batter in an air fryer? ›

An equal amount of all-purpose flour and cornstarch provides both structure and crunch to the batter. Cornstarch is a go-to ingredient for many fried foods (think crispy chicken wings), and using it to bolster the crisping power of flour resulted in a thinner, crispier, and sturdier (yet still delicate) breading.

What is the best air fryer temperature for vegetables? ›

Preheat the device to 375 degrees F. Prep the vegetables. Add the desired amount of seasonings and oil. Layer the vegetables into the bottom of your air fryer as flat as possible and allow them to cook for 10 to 15 minutes.

Why are people getting rid of air fryers? ›

Summary. In conclusion, while air fryers offer certain benefits such as reduced calorie intake and faster cooking times, they are not without their limitations. Size constraints, limited cooking options, and concerns about crispiness are driving some people to look for alternatives.

What makes vegetables crispy? ›

Vegetables need to roast in a single layer without overlapping one another on the baking sheet. This will allow the air to circulate and crisp the outsides (otherwise, the veggies will steam and not crisp). Use Enough Olive Oil. Oil is necessary for the vegetables to caramelize.

How do you keep green beans crispy? ›

The trick to this crunchy and vibrant green bean salad is a method called “blanching and refreshing”. This simply means cooking your beans in boiling water and then plunging them into cold water to stop the cooking process and keep their wonderful colour and bite.

How do you can green beans and keep them crisp? ›

Choose freshly picked green beans, rinse clean, snap to bite-size pieces, place in jars and cover with boiling water, then pressure can for just 20 minutes! Easy peasy and no need to pre-cook or blanch your green beans.

Are sauteed green beans supposed to be crunchy? ›

Cover the pan and let the green beans cook until fork tender, about 5 minutes. If you want your green beans to still have some crunch to them, you might only want to cover the pan for 3 minutes. I like my green beans to be very tender, without being mushy.

What makes food crispy in air fryer? ›

The top section of an air fryer holds a heating mechanism and fan. You place the food in a fryer-style basket and when you turn it on, hot air rushes down and around the food. This rapid circulation makes the food crisp—much like deep-frying, but without the oil.

Is an air fryer or oven better for Crispier? ›

An air fryer rapidly circulates heated air throughout the cooking cavity, helping to remove surface moisture from food and create a crispy exterior. Conventional, non-convection ovens use heating elements on the top and bottom of the cooking cavity, leaving the air fairly static.

Why doesn't my chicken get crispy in the air fryer? ›

During the air frying process, if you pull out the chicken and notice any dry flour spots on the chicken, spray those spots lightly with oil. The breading will never crisp up if it doesn't have a tiny bit of oil to hydrate it.
