The makers of the film were so cash-strapped after the original Mad Max film was made that they were forced to strip this interceptor of it's movie modifications and sell it as a road-going street car.

Thankfully, this plan fell through when they couldn't find a buyer and the Pursuit Special was given to the on-set motor mechanic Murray Smith in lieu of cash payment.
