SOCIAL MEDIA FOR FOOD BLOGGERS

You probably know already that if you want to get new people to see your blog, you have to know how to work social media. Building a following is all about getting out there and capturing peoples’ attention in a confident way.

THE BEST SOCIAL NETWORKS
Some social networks are better than others. So, you need to know where you can reach the people who will be interested in your content.

It doesn’t get much better than Instagram. It’s a wonderful resource for bloggers to share their photos and personal lives in the same place. I’ve found Instagram to be the easiest social network to gain followers without much effort. The trick is to use lots of hashtags and new people will stumble on your posts and follow you.

Pinterest is the best way to share pages and recipes. It’s also the easiest way for your site visitors to share your posts with their followers. I suggest using social media icons on your pages to make it insanely easy to share.

Facebook is another great way to share new posts. Just create a page with your blog’s name and add a little information about your blog and you’re good to go. The great thing about Facebook pages is that you can see how many people have viewed your posts and you can boost your posts for a small price.

Twitter is definitely not my favorite way to share my content. I might just be the only teenager in the world who dislikes Twitter. However, lots of bloggers have found success with Twitter. If your blog is mostly stories and not so much pictures, Twitter is a great way to share previews of your posts.

I’m not totally sure that YouTube counts as a social network, but it’s definitely a great thing for bloggers to have. I love when bloggers have videos on their sites. It’s especially great to see a cooking video; you know, where they do a speeded up version of their recipe.

CATERING TO A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE
Your blog probably caters to a specific group of people, so your social media accounts should do the same. You’ll notice that there are thousands, maybe even millions, of types of interests on social media. Some people like TV fan fiction, but I like healthy food. The great thing about things like Instagram is that they havea page where they share thingsthey think you’ll like. That makes it super easy for people who are interested in your type of blog to find you.

AUTOMATICALLY SHARING POSTS
The best part about sharing your blog on social media is that you don’t have to design your posts. All you have to do is use a plug-in toautomaticallypost to your social media accounts. I’m currently using Mailchimp to both send my newsletter and post to my accounts automatically. I love the way it formats the posts. Another great way to share posts automatically is with the plug in NextScripts.

TRACK YOUR GROWTH
The most fun part about sharing on social media is that you can watch your following grow. There are several sites where you can track your growth. You can do this with sites like: SproutSocial, TrackurandDomo. If you want to use one that’s free, try on of these: Hootsuite,KloutorTwazzup.

SOCIAL MEDIA ICONS ON YOUR SITE
The best way to get people to share your site with others is to have social media icons on every page. Make sure that no matter where they go on your site, they can share your content without a hassle. In my opinion, Get Social is the best for social media bars and pop-ups. I currently am using the starter plan and I think it’s definitely worth the $7/month.
