Everyone here at the quail farm laughed when they saw the topic for this post was “how long do quail eggs last” because in our experience they’re so delicious people usually gobble them up right away!
But if you’re one of those savvy shoppers who like to stock up, this is a valid question… and we’re happy to answer it!
How long do fresh quail eggs stay fresh?
The best way to keep your cute li’l quail eggs fresh is to pop them into the fridge as soon as you get home… but make sure you don’t wash them! Washing will remove the protective “bloom” that keeps bacteria from penetrating the shell.
Before placing them in the fridge, check the “best before” date on the package and plan to use them before that date. If you’re having trouble deciding what you want to use them for, check out our extensive recipe section for inspiration!
How about boiled quail eggs?
If you hard boil your quail eggs and you don’t intend to eat them right away (good luck with that!) you can store them in the fridge for up to a week, as long as you don’t peel them.
The shells seal in the moisture and keep the eggs from absorbing other flavours and odors, so if you do peel them, keep them covered in a glass container and eat them within a few days.
It’s a good idea to hard boil a whole bunch at a time so they’re ready to use in some of our great recipes (or to pop in your mouth for a quick, nutritious snack!).
Okay. What about pickled quail eggs?
Pickling is a method of food preservation, so your pickled quail egg can last for three or four months in the fridge… but these guys are VERY addictive, so we’re not sure this has ever been accurately tested! (If you can make a bag last longer than a week, we’d be amazed at your willpower!)
